Afraid of Naming God

This is an old article post that I wrote long ago. I considered what if people allowed themselves to consider the fact that GOD was REAL. I was more fiery and not so careful with my words so I had to go back over the post and temper it down a little. So many people in the world are hurting and in need of healing, but the real physician of the soul is God and as a society we have cautioned doctors, teachers and counselors from speaking of God. In a blog about healing from abuse and trauma, I try to be sensitive because I know many have been hurt by the "church" and hypocrites that call themselves Christians but who have simply sought their own glory and riches through the church.

Even so, man's wrong behavior does not change the goodness of God.

Seek God and He will be found!

God is personable, reasonable and knowable. He can guide and heal. Prayer works and for many hurting people intervention of God's help is necessary. Yet, we as a society have mostly rejected him and pushed him into a Sunday, private event where we are suppose to worship "our God" and then be quiet about him 24/7. Why do we accept these shackles of faith?

Are you self-aware? I feel scientist, doctors, teachers/professors, writers, philosophers, and counselors/therapist share a common fear: most are afraid of naming God.

Sure they come close:
  • higher power
  • source
  • spirit
  • soul
  • oneness
  • mind
  • invisible ....
  • force
  • essence
  • higher level
  • core
Many more words are used to describe what each have come to face as real.

They know humans are more than physical and mental/emotional. If they are fortunate to have connected in a relationship with another person, to peer eye to eye, to feel and connect in a deep way through the closeness of physical touch or even sexual intimacy, they have experienced a taste of something beyond scientific prodding, calculated measurement, microscopic dissecting, and mere logical reasoning of humans.

But as they reach the limits of physical, they press on.

Mostly due to compassion, need, and want. They go on experimenting, digging deep into what is real because to help people; they sincerely desire to understand human make-up. Science (physical, medical) methods can only go to the end of itself--to touch the substance of matter, the molecular make-up. And they know, if they have ever dared to feel, to touch, to reach or to see beyond the visible they may have to accept that "something" else is real, at work, part of, capable, and able to be used to heal.

So they feel safer incorporating eastern type beliefs of mindful meditation, spirituality without naming God or using the Bible. However, they don't know that the Bible itself teaches us to be mindful and to mediate. Eastern faiths do not have high standards of how one should live, but the Bible holds Jesus out as our standard. So people who do not want to feel bad about living any way they choose, don't want to hear about a better way to live

--one the treats each person with dignity and equality because we are each and all individually created in God's image.

However, they can not deny spirituality if they are honest with themselves. It creeps into their dreams and their life. They know that the spirit is invisible, that is not measurable with math or science, something they can't touch, but it speaks deeply to every human soul's condition. The exchange in a act of kindness, the connection of giving to another, the tear of witnessing the restoration by the work that takes place that can't quite be logged, assessed, or understood within their acceptable vocabulary.

They witness miracles and marvel, yet move along because miracles don't fit in scientific boxes.

Everyone knows a particle can not create a particle. It is pure foolishness that is bound to drive a real thinking mind insane if they continue to force themselves to believe it. The universe and everything within it that is physical was formed in an intelligent way. Mathematically it is not only impossible but it is also illogical to pretend mutated accidents or atom collisions or heat/energy induced transformations just happen to make what we observe, along with all of the universe. They pretend to think chaos made life and animals and fish, and birds, and every different plant, and even people.

So when are most educated, thinking, professional people going to step off the guarded dogma, and admit they aren't living a lie?

And why not investigate, why not want to know, why not explore.... go, run, leap... don't look back, don't fear, don't crumble to the voices... set yourself free to consider God.

What amazing freedom your will find in just that one step! What if.... God.

That was not so hard. However, for many it is terrifying. Kingdoms of man will have to crumble. Entire humanistic worldview will have to rock and be open to examination.

Could God.... Is God... Me and God... God and all.... Can you even try to think this way?

Or will you stay within the walls of "safety" and "tolerance," and never learn to really help others heal because you are too fearful yourself of what others may think. Are you terrified to know? Are you just not able to face truth that may shattered your "world" and send you on a wild, unpredictable, out of your control journey called life? Go ahead - dare to live- be alive.

Don't be afraid. Dare to run after God.

Allow relationships, family life, marriage, and work to flourish because you have become aware of God and are willing to learn about Him as He describes Himself in the Holy Bible. Read it for yourself. Find a Bible teaching ministry. Learn God's plan for your life and how He intends to heal you and to help you help others.

How can I be so sure? How can a person know?

God says, "Seek and He will be found." I have found Him! You can too. God helped me heal. I would not be living and breathing today if it was not for God. And He is available and ready to help anyone else who will turn to Him.
