PTSD Help - What Do You Need?
"What do you need?" is a great place to start. Probably one of the very best ministry questions you can ask. But be ready for
1) a person who has never been asked such a question and is clueless about what they need or
2) a person desperately in need so overwhelming that some of the first needs seem so basic, simple, and not possibly the real need.
Don't be surprised! "Root needs" don't surface so quickly; basic needs must be addressed before the root is dealt with. And basic needs are important. It is through dealing with and solving very simple basic needs that a person can move along to the deep ones.

So, if the person is able to answer you, don't disregard "it" as too simply or too messy. Don't ask, don't say, "yes", don't pretend, if you really don't want to help.
The hurting soul knows if you partially detached and emotionally disconnected after a need is expressed.
No one joys is changing a dirty diaper or redressing an oozing wound,
no one joys in walking slower due to being held back by someone who freezes or wanders,
no one joys in being told hurtful words or being pierced by how someone truly feels abandoned.
So they walk away, busy themselves with everything and do anything to not have to get close ... at least during the tough days.

But followers of Jesus press on, stick tight, love unconditionally--- these are such the times that you are needed the most! Ministry is not easy. Real ministry gets dirty and is heavy work, but real ministry is also where they victories against the enemy are won -- on the battlefields of life.
And your reward will be great, better than any earthy medal or promotion. God is shaping us into His chosen piece of pottery for His glory.
This is eternal work --aiding and meeting needs of wounded brothers and sisters. They need to know that they are not alone.
Remember in this world we are in a war, don't be surprised when a child of God is attacked or hurting from wounds. This is common for those in battle! Generations lost to satan, destroyed by his ploys, are being won back to the Lord. Isn't that something worthy of being part of? We need to come out like the early militia to assist in each other in battles. Realize some battles are not personal, they carry the weight of generations destroyed through sin. How do we expect one poor soul to fight so much alone? We are put together in the body of Christ for each other.
So be prepared, willing and ready for the work on the battlefield of life. And through everything you do, the Holy Spirit who lives within you guiding and directing you in what is best to do - listen to Him, He is your Leader in this war. But most of all, love!
